Who we are

We are the Pennsylvania Wine Society, a non-profit corporation with a mission of providing education about vinifera grape growing, winemaking and wine appreciation.  The Pennsylvania Wine Society, Ltd. (hereafter the Society) understands and respects your privacy.  Our website address is: https://pawinesociety.org. (hereafter the site).

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

The Society is committed to protecting your privacy online. When you visit the Society’s site, it may collect personal information from you such as your name and e-mail address.

Our third-party hosting company may collect additional information such as the URL you came from, your IP address, your domain name, your browser type, the country and state where your server is located, and the pages that were viewed during your visit to our site. All this information is kept on a secure server to protect it from outside parties.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

If you register as a user on our website to receive newsletters or other information, we store that personal information in a user profile.   Registered users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change the username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select "Remember Me", your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We collect various information relating to your purchases, use and/or interactions with our services. We utilize this information to improve services, diagnose problems, and identify any security risks, errors, or needed enhancements.  Much of the data collected is aggregated or statistical data about how individuals use our services, what products are preferred, etc., and is not linked to any personal information.

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to provide the Services you have requested and thereafter for a variety of legitimate legal or business purposes. These might include retention periods for preserving, resolving, defending or enforcing our legal/contractual rights; or
needed to maintain adequate and accurate business and financial records.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Your contact information

Information you provide in completing contact forms is stored and used to contact you and provide events and services information to you via postal mail, electronic mail, telephone, or text.  Your postal mailing address is used to process mailing labels for the Newsletter Editor to mail the printed newsletter.  All other personal information is secured with the Treasurers and is not shared with anyone.  If you have any questions about the security or retention of your personal information, please contact treasurer@pawinesociety.org.

Regulatory Disclosure Requirements

Compliance with legal, regulatory and law enforcement requests.

We cooperate with government and law enforcement officials and private parties to enforce and comply with the law. We will disclose any information about you to government or law enforcement officials or private parties as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate to respond to claims and legal process (such as subpoena requests), to protect our property and rights or the property and rights of a third party, to protect the safety of the public or any person, or to prevent or stop activity we consider to be illegal or unethical.

To the extent we are legally permitted to do so, we will take reasonable steps to notify you in the event that we are required to provide your personal information to third parties as part of legal process.
