Wine Wednesday ~ Cabernet Franc

The enigmatic Cabernet Franc. Parent grape of both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which are two of the six Noble Grapes. Parent grape to three of the six allowable red grapes permitted in a red Bordeaux blend, and itself one of those six allowable red grapes. A grape that yields complex red wines, with aromas of raspberry, bramble, and bell pepper, Cabernet Franc is principally grown for blending with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Bordeaux style; but, it can also be vinified alone, as in the Loire’s Chinon or throughout the wine regions of North America’s East Coast. And, yet, it is a grape that evokes strong emotional responses in favor of or against it.
