German Wine Labels with guest, Inge Mountz

Have you ever wandered into your wine store’s German section, only to feel totally overwhelmed? At first glance, your first impression is that the bottles are all very decorative with their multi-colored and very artistically done labels. But, upon closer inspection, deciphering the Germanic font with strange accents over some of the lettering in the words can become quickly perplexing. You are confronted by many uniquely new and strange words and without the slightest clue as to where to begin or what it is that you are reading! Well, fear not!

Our next Virtual Wine Tasting event on Zoom, which takes place on Sunday, October 24^th at 3:30 pm Eastern/New York Time, will dispel the confusion that surrounds interpreting German wine labels. During this segment of our regularly scheduled virtual programming, our host Joe Via and his guest host Inge Mountz will cut through the mystery of German wine labels and how to understand them. Inge is a German native whose first language is German, and she will offer correct pronunciations for the many words to which we may not relate, while Joe Via will guide us through a basic “German Wines 101”. During his overview of the German wine industry, Joe will touch upon Germany’s wine history, its thirteen regions, and the way that the German wine industry addresses wine quality and other details on its wine labels.
