It’s Beaujolais Nouveau Time! Every year at 12.01 am on the third Thursday of November, a young, fruity wine full of flavor and zest is released for consumption. In France, it is against the law to release this wine before the appointed time, and the rest of the wine drinking world complies with this tradition so that Beaujolais Nouveau Day can be simultaneously celebrated the world over!

This weekend’s Virtual Wine Tasting takes a detour and presents on Saturday afternoon instead of Sunday. So, please mark your calendar and join us this Saturday, November 20^th at 3:30 pm Eastern Time on the Zoom link shown below. That is when Joe Via will lead us through a wine tasting and discussion of the history and tradition of the Beaujolais Region of France and their red wines, which includes both Beaujolais and Beaujolais Nouveau. During Joe’s dissertation, he will discuss the grape with which both Beaujolais and Beaujolais Nouveau are made, the region in which the grape and the wines are made. Joe will also focus on the process used to make Beaujolais Nouveau, which makes this wine the first wine of the new harvest and how it is able to be bottled and distributed within mere weeks of harvest!

Beaujolais Nouveau Day is not immune to the supply chain difficulties that currently plague the world as a result of the pandemic. As such there is only one Nouveau Beaujolais available this year in Central Pennsylvania Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores. So, we will discuss Beaujolais Nouveau 2021 and Beaujolais as a region using an old vines Villages and a “Cru” (Morgon) from Louis Jadot.
