Wines of South West France

Our next Virtual Wine Education event takes place on Sunday, April 10^th at 3:30 pm Eastern on Zoom (link shown below). On the French side of the Pyrenees lies Gascony – the land of many tribes. That land would become known as a quality wine producing region. With Bordeaux to its North, the Bordelaise had passed regulations known as ‘Police de Vin’ ensuring its Bordeaux region wines preferentially made it to market before those of South West France and it seems that, to this day, while those rules are long past, we tend to forget about the wine growing regions of Irouleguy, Bearn, Madiran, Juracon, Cahors and Gaillac. As an aside you may recognize the region’s more famous brandy – Armagnac. We will take a look at the history and wines of these less-famous areas that call themselves “the quiet Southern neighbors of Bordeaux.”
