SUMMARY:Botrytis Wines
DESCRIPTION:August 21st 7 p.m. at the Hilton the PA Wine Society is having a truly extraordinary event.  I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say this is a once in a lifetime tasting.  We will be tasting ten sweet wines from four different countries; France\, Germany\, Hungary and Austria. \nAll of these older vintage wines have been carefully procured over the last nine months.  Two things to know:  1) the wines are already aged and at the peak drinking window and   2) though still a high-end event… for the liquid gold these wines deliver the price point is exceptional.  We are drinking some very expensive wines and sharing the bottle cost! \nUnlike most dry wines\, sweet wines seem to be almost immortal\, drinking well after evolving for decades. \nWe’ll sample a Chenin Blanc from Vouvray in the Loire Valley from the outstanding 1989 vintage.  The Austrian Trockenbeerenauslese wines are from the 1990’s. \nOne objective I have for this tasting is to show how food-friendly these wines can be.  These wines are not just for sipping after a meal.  I for one have been drinking a German Auslese Riesling with my New Year’s Day pork and sauerkraut for the last few years.  The sweet wine pairs perfectly with the sauerkraut and the bracing acidity is a perfect foil for fatty pork and buttery mashed potatoes. \nFor your event\, I’ve asked the Hilton to prepare a wide assortment of dishes ranging from savory to sweet.  I would suggest that attendees save their wines throughout the tasting to compare with each dish. \nFor any doubters\, I’d like to add that these wines are not Black Box Moscato or Tears of Gettysburg. It is important that you understand these are multidimensional flavor bombs that will enchant even the most stubborn sweet wine hater. \nThese are not sweet wines—these are liquid gold jewels with residual sugar sweetness well-balanced with acidity and rich flavors—worthy of every wine enthusiast palate. \nAn event like this doesn’t come around often AND seats are limited by the number of bottles of each wine we could secure.  Don’t miss it!!!  You will learn so much. \nThe small plate food pairings are: \n\nChicken Liver Mousse\, Blue Cheese\, Seasonal Fruits\, Honey Comb  \nThai Curry with Rice Noodles\nPeach Tarte w/ Brown Butter Crumble \n\nPlease e-mail the Treasurer with any food allergy concerns. \nReservation deadline—August 18th so don’t delay.   You may purchase reservations on the Shoppe Page of this website. \nMembers—$170 \nPatrons—$165 \nNonmembers—$190 \n  \n  \n
