SUMMARY:Wine Wednesday ~ Wines made from Hybrid Grapes
DESCRIPTION:Wines Made from Hybrid Grapes       by Marty Cook \nWe are all familiar with the short list of so called “Noble Grapes” that includes such favorite European or Vitis vinifera grape varieties as Cabernet Sauvignon\, Merlot\, Chardonnay\, and Riesling.  But\, what about grape varieties with names such as Seyval Blanc\, Chambourcin\, Norton\, Traminette\, Vidal Blanc\, and Vignoles?  This latter group is comprised of Hybrid grape varieties.  But\, what is a “Hybrid”? \nAccording to Wikipedia\, “Hybrid grapes are grape varieties that are the product of a crossing of two or more Vitis species.  This is in contrast to crossings between grape varieties of the same species.”  So\, a Hybrid is the crossing of two species of grapes\, such as Vitis vinifera and\, say\, Vitis labrusca or Vitis aestivalis.  A quick check on Google renders any number of possibilities for Hybrid wine grape varieties.  A good source of such wines (if not your wine cellar) would be virtually any winery east of the Rockies.  Curious for more on hybrid grape varieties?  Check out these articles from Wine Folly and Wine Enthusiast. \nSo\, do your best to locate a representative bottle of wine made from a Hybrid variety or from a blend of Hybrid varieties and join us for Wine Wednesday on April 14th at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the Zoom link shown below! \nAnd\, as always\, please send a photo of the front and back labels from the bottle you choose to feature and send those photos to WineCat@pa.net for inclusion in our Power Point Presentation for next Wednesday evening.  We look forward to seeing you! \nhttps://zoom.us/j/93200869048?pwd=Q05jbnpVdlpSY3VzZmo3K2ZMd3ljdz09 \nMeeting ID: 932 0086 9048\nPasscode: 081795 \nOne tap mobile\n+16465588656\,\,93200869048#\,\,\,\,*081795# US (New York)\n+13017158592\,\,93200869048#\,\,\,\,*081795# US (Washington DC) \nDial by your location\n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n+1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\nMeeting ID: 932 0086 9048\nPasscode: 081795\nFind your local number: https://zoom.us/u/abswGQ24p7

SUMMARY:Wine Wednesday ~ Wines For the Passover and Easter Seasons
DESCRIPTION:Wine Wednesday ~ Wines For the Passover and Easter Seasons    by Marty Cook \nWhat are you serving this season?  Just as important is the wine or wines that you will pair with that food!  Have a traditional pairing?  Or\, need ideas? \nThis seasonal fare is generally lighter fare.  Wines that work are generally light to medium bodied\, often lacking in tannins\, and frequently white or rosé.  These wines may include everything from Pinot Grigio to Beaujolais and everything in between. \nSearch online for help\, if you wish\, or visit your local wine shop for a chat with the resident Wine Specialist and pour over the shelves of possibilities.  Sauvignon Blanc?  If so\, from where?  Pinot Noir?  Again\, location-location-location.  What about something off the beaten track?  A Furmint from Hungary\, perhaps?  Or\, a Verdicchio from Jesi\, Italy?  Or\, default to a traditional rosé from Provence\, France?  Whatever you choose\, we look forward to being surprised at its unveiling at our next Wine Wednesday on March 31st at 7:00 p.m.  Join us then on the Zoom link listed below for an hour of entertaining chatter as we toast the season! \nOh\, and\, remember to take photos of the front and back labels on your wine choice and e-mail those to WineCat@pa.net for inclusion in our PowerPoint display.  We look forward to you being on hand! \nJoin Our Zoom Meeting by clicking on the following link: \nhttps://zoom.us/j/93944060237?pwd=T1pkNkEyNllNeE0reGVQQmhiYkw1Zz09 \nMeeting ID: 939 4406 0237 \nPasscode: 995067 \nOne tap mobile \n+13126266799\,\,93944060237#\,\,\,\,*995067# US (Chicago) \n+16465588656\,\,93944060237#\,\,\,\,*995067# US (New York) \n  \nDial by your location \n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) \n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York) \n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC) \n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston) \n+1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose) \n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma) \nMeeting ID: 939 4406 0237 \nPasscode: 995067 \nFind your local number: https://zoom.us/u/aGa3L5hAP \n

DESCRIPTION:Wine Wednesday Featuring Red Blends          by Marty Cook \nOur next Wine Wednesday on March 24th features Red Blends!  This event falls on the heels of our Saint Patty’s Day Wine Wednesday when we featured White Blends\, some of which “accidentally” turned green!  Leprechauns may have been involved.   Everyone enjoyed themselves so much that we decided to move on from drinking white wine blends to red wine blends of your own choosing. \nIf you would like to participate in the fun\, secure a bottle of a blended red wine of your choosing and connect on the Zoom link shown below at 7:00 p.m. EASTERN time on March 24th for our next Wine Wednesday!  Choose an old favorite\, or something you’ve been meaning to try\, or a new one that grabs your eye on the Fine Wine and Good Spirits Store shelf. \nAs always\, please remember to take a photo of the front label\, and if of interest\, the back/side labels on your bottle\, and e-mail them to WineCat@pa.net\, which enables us to include your wine label in our PowerPoint presentation next Wednesday.   Thank you! \nWe look forward to you joining in and sharing your wine finds with us! \nhttps://zoom.us/j/93709240047?pwd=ZDhtRncxbEZsUkNseUFXcUtzNTZUUT09 \nMeeting ID: 937 0924 0047 \nPasscode: 686857 \n  \nOne tap mobile \n+13017158592\,\,93709240047#\,\,\,\,*686857# US (Washington DC) \n+13126266799\,\,93709240047#\,\,\,\,*686857# US (Chicago) \n  \nDial by your location \n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC) \n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) \n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York) \n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma) \n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston) \n+1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose) \nMeeting ID: 937 0924 0047 \nPasscode: 686857 \nFind your local number: https://zoom.us/u/abUY3Wtj1a

SUMMARY:Presque Isle Wine Cellars: Where Pennsylvania Wine Began
DESCRIPTION:There is a town in the northern most part of the northwest corner of Pennsylvania that is named North East (go figure!).  Near this town is where you will find one of the very first wineries licensed in Pennsylvania soon after the Commonwealth’s legislature passed the Limited Winery Act in 1968.  The name of that winery is Presque Isle Wine Cellars. \nPresque Isle Wine Cellars was founded by a man named Doug Moorhead\, who was the first Chairman of the State Grape Marketing Council\, which developed the legislative proposal that became the Pennsylvania Limited Winery Act in 1968.  Doug is often called “The Father of the Pennsylvania Wine Industry”.  It is Doug’s winery that we will feature on Sunday\, March 21st at 3:30 p.m. Eastern during another in our continuing series of PA Wine Society Virtual Wine Tasting events. \nJoining us as co-host\, and representing Presque Isle Wine Cellars is Bob Green\, who is a man of many talents\, including Executive Winemaker at Presque Isle Wine Cellars.  Bob worked in the cellar with Presque Isle founder\, Doug Moorhead\, and trained at Penn State Erie as a benthologist\, a biologist specializing in studying swamp life and ecosystems. This rigorous scientific and laboratory training and experience in tandem with Bob’s winemaking artistry are a powerful combination that has led to many memorable and award-winning wines produced throughout his career.  Bob is a thoughtful and innovative winemaker whose career spans over 35 years of professional experience as a consulting winemaker as well as being a longtime instructor in Hospitality for Mercyhurst University and lead instructor for the Penn State – Berks Workforce Development Winemaking Certificate.  Bob will feature three of his “soon-to-be-released” wines during our upcoming tasting\, as follows: \n The Wines \n 2020 Pinot Blanc \nPresque Isle is one of the very few regional producers that make a varietal Pinot Blanc. This hard-to-find member of the Pinot family is truly a unique experience. The grapes for our Pinot Blanc come from the vineyards of John and Cindy Moorhead and their great care in the vineyard helps create the superb expression this wine has. Fresh aromas of ripe melons rush to the forefront followed by a hint of citrus and wild flowers on the palate. Enjoy this wine with light appetizers\, buttered langoustines\, and any other light seafood. \n 2020 Grüner Veltliner \nG-V is a remarkably complex dry white wine made from one of Austria’s best known traditional grape varieties that grows wonderfully in Lake Erie vineyards.  It exudes characteristic lime and white pepper aromas along with floral and pear notes. This delightful version has a lovely creamy texture\, but also a crisp finish.  G-V is a versatile food-loving wine and goes especially well with vegetable dishes and light meats and complements foods with acidity and spice.  Presque Isle 2019 G-V just won Double Gold at the prestigious 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition so we can only imagine how good the 2020 might be. \n 2019 Carmine \nUnique to Lake Erie wineries\, the little known vinifera variety Carmine is a cross of Cabernet Sauvignon\, Merlot and Carignan and it combines the strengths of each into an interesting and delightful medium bodied dry red.  Hints of earthy leather from Cabernet Sauvignon\, smooth black currant from Merlot\, and spicy lemongrass\, sassafras and mint from the Carignan.  Aged 15 months in American Oak\, this deeply colored\, cool climate red is easy on the palate with complex flavors. Finishing with notes of dark chocolate\, it pairs nicely with grilled beef\, pork\, or roast poultry\, and with Cajun or Creole fare. \nOrdering Wines \n\nThe 20% discount price for this 3-pack of wines is $45\, plus your state sales tax\, plus shipping.\nPlease note that Presque Isle Wine Cellars ships to 39 states and the District of Columbia.   \nOrder wines online at www.piwine.com using the Promo Code PWS2021.  Use the search box on the home page and search “PWS2021” the PWS  Sneak Peek Package comes right up for you.   OR you may also call to order – phone 814-725-1314 and ask for the PWS2021 Sneak Peek package.\n\nSo\, order those wines today\, and please join us on Sunday\, March 21st at 3:30 p.m. Eastern for another exciting online wine tasting interlude with the PA Wine Society!   Zoom link and information below. \nZoom Information \n https://zoom.us/j/92313750668?pwd=UkNsa0ZOTkMvVUwwSUU4YkNoeWgvQT09 \nMeeting ID: 923 1375 0668 \nPasscode: 899605 \nOne tap mobile \n+13126266799\,\,92313750668#\,\,\,\,*899605# US (Chicago) \n+16465588656\,\,92313750668#\,\,\,\,*899605# US (New York) \nDial by your location \n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) \n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York) \n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC) \n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston) \n+1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose) \n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma) \nMeeting ID: 923 1375 0668 \nPasscode: 899605 \nFind your local number: https://zoom.us/u/adpyHSLt6Y \n

SUMMARY:Wine Wednesday ~ Wines of the Southern Hemisphere
DESCRIPTION:Wine Wednesday ~ Wines of the Southern Hemisphere      by Marty Cook \nAs we begin to wrap up our winter season in the Northern Hemisphere\, our neighbors in the Southern Hemisphere are entering their harvest season!  It is winemaking time every six months in the world\, depending on which half of the globe you inhabit. Just imagine chasing the harvest every six months!  Now\, that is something to add to the bucket list! \nFor the time being\, I must be content with administering to my responsibilities here in the north\, and many of you are probably in the same boat.  But\, that does not stop us from enjoying the fruits of the Southern Hemisphere wine growers! \nSo for next week’s Wine Wednesday\, bring a bottle of wine from “down under” to celebrate the 2021 Southern Hemisphere harvest!  That leaves it wide open for you to decide\, i.e. Australia\, New Zealand\, South Africa\, and South America (Chile\, Uruguay\, Argentina\, Brazil).   All grape varieties are fair game! \nAlso\, please take a photo of your wine label in advance and send a copy to WineCat@pa.net. We will share label photos to the screen on Wednesday evening. \nJoin us when we share our Southern Hemisphere wine discoveries with each other on Wine Wednesday\, March 10th at 7:00 p.m. Eastern. \nHere is the link that you can use to join us: \n https://zoom.us/j/92456583862?pwd=dUR1cE1jQ0NzZXRVZ1JxRXJuL0ZqUT09 \n Meeting ID: 924 5658 3862 \nPasscode: 387119 \nOne tap mobile \n+16465588656\,\,92456583862#\,\,\,\,*387119# US (New York) \n+13017158592\,\,92456583862#\,\,\,\,*387119# US (Washington DC) \n  \nDial by your location \n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York) \n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC) \n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) \n+1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose) \n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma) \n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston) \nMeeting ID: 924 5658 3862 \nPasscode: 387119 \nFind your local number: https://zoom.us/u/a3WhClWjD \n

SUMMARY:California Dreamin' ...about wine!
DESCRIPTION:A History of California Wine in Six Glasses                                       by Kevin Ostrowski \nWhen talking about wine in the United States\, most people immediately think of California\, and with good reason. California wines rival those of anywhere else in the world and\, in some cases\, have been deemed the best in the world; but\, wine in California had humble beginnings. It is a story of religion\, immigration\, hard work\, taking chances and seizing opportunities. \nOn Sunday\, March 7th at 3:30 p.m.\, we will talk about the origins and history of California wine\, how it began\, evolved\, struggled\, and finally flourished. Let us sample some signature brands and toast their successes with “A History of California Wine in Six Glasses”. We will tell the stories of Krug\, Mondavi\, Stag’s Leap\, and Chateau Montelena\, among others — how they got their start and how they built their reputations. \nA short list of representative wines are listed below; but\, the choice of wine for this tasting is left to your discretion. We will talk about each of these wine labels within the scope of this presentation; but\, regardless of what you choose to enjoy (one\, two\, or all six!)\, we will touch upon every one of these labels as our journey wends its way through the winegrowing regions and history of California. We will certainly raise our glass to their founders in the process. \nWhat follows is the list of brands and labels that we will examine. Again\, choose one\, several\, or all\, depending on your taste and budget. Along the way\, we will tell the story of these wines as their aromas and flavors bring California wine history to life\, possibly encouraging you to plan your next trip (when we can once again travel safely) to the vineyards and wineries of The Golden State! \nBuena Vista ~ Chardonnay or Cabernet Sauvignon \nSchramsberg ~ Brut\, or Blanc de Blanc \nCharles Krug ~ Cabernet Sauvignon \nRobert Mondavi ~ Fumé Blanc\, or another Mondavi Label (or\, a very expensive Opus One!!!) \nE&J Gallo — Gallo Family Vineyards ~ Chardonnay\, Cabernet\, Merlot\, Sauvignon Blanc \nChateau Montelena ~ Chardonnay \nStag’s Leap ~ Cabernet Sauvignon (or\, Artemis) \nPlease join us on Sunday\, March 7th at 3:30 p.m. on the Zoom link shown below as we explore the rich history and robust tradition of wine and winemaking in California! Secure one or several bottles of the above-listed representative wines from The Golden State and log onto Zoom for an hour-long whirlwind tour of some of the most prominent labels that firmly established California as what many consider to be North America’s premier wine-growing region.  Zoom details follow. \nTo join “A History of California Wines in Six Glasses”\, please use the following link: \n https://zoom.us/j/98243478140?pwd=WVJYaU9ERVU5VUFaZk9GSUVjSlZzQT09   \n Meeting ID: 982 4347 8140 \nPasscode: 317836 \nOne tap mobile \n+13126266799\,\,98243478140#\,\,\,\,*317836# US (Chicago) \n+16465588656\,\,98243478140#\,\,\,\,*317836# US (New York) \nDial by your location \n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) \n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York) \n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC) \n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston) \n+1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose) \n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma) \nMeeting ID: 982 4347 8140 \nPasscode: 317836 \nFind your local number: https://zoom.us/u/a1Q8xTu92 \n  \n

SUMMARY:Wine Wednesday ~ The CONTINUED Quest for Lesser Known Grapes
DESCRIPTION:Wine Wednesday (the continued quest for lesser known grapes)                                  by Marty Cook \nOur Pennsylvania Wine Society Wine Wednesday event this past week was such a success that a consensus of its participants determined we should repeat the same theme again! \nFor those of you who were unable to attend our last Wine Wednesday\, the challenge was to avoid purchasing a wine for the event that belonged to the expanded Wine Folly list of eighteen Noble Grapes. \nTHE EIGHTEEN (alphabetized as a memory aid) \nCabernet Sauvignon \nChardonnay \nChenin Blanc \nGewurztraminer \nGrenache \nMalbec \nMerlot \nMoscato \nNebbiolo \nPinot Grigio \nPinot Noir \nRiesling \nSangiovese \nSauvignon Blanc \nSemillon \nSyrah/Shiraz \nTempranillo \nViognier \nFully 50% of the wine we drink comes from that list of eighteen grapes! In the meantime\, we overlook tasting wines that come from nearly 1\,400 other recognized wine grapes. \nIn the interest of combating homogeneity\, please purchase a wine made from grapes NOT on the list of eighteen Noble Grapes. This may take a bit of digging\, or you can just go to your nearest Fine Wine & Good Spirits store and ask your friendly neighborhood Wine Specialist for some help!  Below is a short list of possible lesser-known grape/wine selections that may give some idea from which to choose a wine made with a lesser-known grape varietal.  With nearly 1\,400 grape possibilities\, your success is ensured! \nHere is a short list of possible lesser-known grape/wine selections \nAglianico\nAlbariño\nApremont (Jacquère is the grape)\nArneis\nBarbera\nBlaufränkisch (also known as Lemberger)\nBobal\nCarménère\nDolcetto\nDornfelder\nGavi\nGros Manseng\nMalvasia\nMarsanne\nMarselan\nMencia\nMondeuse\nMontepulciano\nMuscadet (Melon-de-Bourgogne is the grape)\nNero d’Avola\nPetit Manseng\nPetit Sirah\nPetit Verdot\nPinot Blanc\nPinotage\nRkatsiteli\nRoussanne\nSagrantino\nSaperavi\nTeroldego\nTorrontés\nTouriga Nacional\nVerdicchio\nVermentino\nZweigelt\nPlus\, there are any number of hybrid grapes from which to choose. Some of the above are actually hybrids of strictly V. vinifera parentage; but\, I am referencing the hybrids that have parentage from two grape species\, i.e. V. vinifera\, V. labrusca\, V. aestivalis\, and V. riparia. \nAlso\, please take a photo of your wine label in advance and send a copy to WineCat@pa.net. We will share label photos to the screen on Wednesday evening. \nJoin us Wednesday to share your discovery with everyone else that evening.  This past week’s lesser-known grapes tour was so interesting and enjoyable that the group elected to do it again next week – the best recommendation a gathering could have!   If you want to enjoy some mid-week social time over a glass of wine\, please consider joining us this coming Wednesday\, March 3rd at 7:00 p.m. Eastern for our next installment of Wine Wednesday! \nYou are invited to join us for a Zoom conference call on Wednesday 03.03.2021 at 7:00 p.m. Eastern. \nTopic: 03.03.2021 “Wine Wednesday” \nTime: Mar 3\, 2021 06:45 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nClick this link to join our Meeting: \nhttps://zoom.us/j/98618036026?pwd=U0p0aS9YRjBCa3JJSmM5U1JPditWUT09 \nMeeting ID: 986 1803 6026 \nPasscode: 352048 \nOne tap mobile \n+16465588656\,\,98618036026#\,\,\,\,*352048# US (New York) \n+13017158592\,\,98618036026#\,\,\,\,*352048# US (Washington DC) \n  \nDial by your location \n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York) \n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC) \n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) \n+1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose) \n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma) \n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston) \nMeeting ID: 986 1803 6026 \nPasscode: 352048 \nFind your local number: https://zoom.us/u/abI11eiOfh \n

SUMMARY:Mazza Wines - Virtual Event
DESCRIPTION:Join Marty Cook for tasting of select Mazza Wines with Mazza Brand Manager and Head Winemaker.  Save the date now and check back 10-14 days prior to the event for additional detail on how to secure the wines\, how to connect by Zoom\, etc. \nMazza Wines\, you may recall was the Pennsylvania Wine Society’s 2019 PA Wine Excellence Award Winner  – we awarded their 2018 Vidal Ice Wine. \nMazza’s history began in Italy.  Joseph Mazza left his 40 acres of sloping terrain planted with figs\, chestnuts\, and vineyards in Calabria\, Italy in 1954 to make his home in the United States. He sent for his wife\, Felecia\, daughter Rosina\, and sons Frank and Robert the following year. \nToday\, Joseph’s son Robert\, his wife Kathie\, and their son\, Mario\, carry on the family tradition at Mazza Vineyards in North East\, Pennsylvania\, one of the premier wineries in the Lake Erie Wine Region\, and the largest producing winery in the state. The winery\, founded and built by Bob and his brother\, Frank\, in 1973\, resembles a Mediterranean structure nestled among acres of rolling vineyards. \nFor more about Mazza Wines\, visit https://enjoymazza.com/mazza-vineyards/

SUMMARY:Virtual Informal Gathering for National Drink Wine Day
DESCRIPTION:by Marty Cook \nSome of you may have participated in the “Wine Wednesdays” Virtual Wine Tasting (VWT) events that I hosted from late July 2020 through mid-November 2020. With the mounting pressures of other personal responsibilities\, I made the decision to discontinue those events before Thanksgiving. And\, although my other responsibilities have not lessened\, I am nonetheless bringing back these events by popular demand! \nOddly enough\, I intend to resume our Wine Wednesday series of VWT events on this Thursday\, February 18th\, at 7:00 pm\, which also happens to be National Drink Wine Day!  Then\, beginning on the following week (Wednesday\, February 24th)\, we will revert back to hosting Wine Wednesday events. \nThere is a new wrinkle to the resurrected version of this VWT series. All of us will join in the tasting with a bottle of wine of our own choosing. We will take turns “going around the room” to let everyone know what we are drinking\, where it is from\, how it tastes\, and any other pertinent information. Then\, in subsequent weeks\, we will all drink the same predetermined varietal or genre of wine. \nThere is no cost to join this event (other than the bottle of wine you bring with you). The length of this session will be approximately an hour. \nIf you are interested in attending\, please use the Zoom link information below on Thursday\, February 18th\, at 7:00 p.m.  No pre-registration required. \nThanks to all\, and I hope to see you on Zoom for National Drink Wine Day! \nTo join our Zoom meeting\, please click the following link: \nhttps://zoom.us/j/99912341758?pwd=bGppdjlQWURyZ1lwU3F3UXA2OFRjQT09 \nMeeting ID: 999 1234 1758 \nPasscode: 600585 \nOne tap mobile \n+16465588656\,\,99912341758#\,\,\,\,*600585# US (New York) \n+13017158592\,\,99912341758#\,\,\,\,*600585# US (Washington DC) \nDial by your location \n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York) \n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC) \n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) \n+1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose) \n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma) \n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston) \nMeeting ID: 999 1234 1758 \nPasscode: 600585 \nFind your local number: https://zoom.us/u/aekJ8l8DNC \n

SUMMARY:Red Wines of Piemonte - Virtual Event
DESCRIPTION:by Marty Cook \nEVENT DESCRIPTION\nOur presentation focuses on red wines made from grapes that could almost be referred to as the “noble red grapes” of Piemonte. Of course\, I am referring to Dolcetto\, Barbera\, and Nebbiolo. \nSome of my most favorite wines come from Piemonte\, Italy which also happens to be the ancestral homeland of my mother’s family. Located at the foothills of the Piedmont Mountains in northwestern Italy\, the area is home to cities such as Turin and Asti. The region has a rich tradition in winemaking\, where many outstanding wines (both red and white) are produced. \nJoe Via and I will co-host this event\, and we are really excited about the three wines that we will discuss! So\, please consider joining us on Sunday\, January 24th at 3:30 pm for the next in an ongoing series of Virtual Wine Tasting events. \nTHE WINES AND HOW TO GET THEM\nIn advance of our presentation\, please secure one\, two\, or all three of the following offerings! They are  readily available in Pennsylvania’s premium Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores\, but don’t wait too long to secure your order – at these price points\, supplies may not last.   The PLCB codes\, product names\, and prices follow: \nCode #83453 ~ Luigi Einaudi Dogliani Superiore “Vigna Tecc” 2018 \n$21.99 \nDeep ruby red with shades of violet. Fresh\, rich\, fruity bouquet\, full bodied with intense fragrances of woodland\, pleasantly tannic and a slightly almond final note. \nOf a dry and moderately acidic taste\, after a year of ageing in steel and wood\, two months of refinement in glass\, it has a good body and full taste with a long final almond note\, typical of this wine. \n  \nCode #79301 ~ Bersano Generala Barbera Nizza Riserva 2016 \n$14.99 \nChairman’s Selection®\, Originally Quoted at $49.00 \n“A fresh\, fruity Barbera with crushed-berry\, orange-peel and spice character. Medium body. Juicy finish.” — 91 Points James Suckling\, Aug 2020 \n“Ripe red and black berry fruits complemented by spicy dark chocolate shavings delight on the robust nose. The sturdy palate shows good structure with fine\, firm\, ripe tannin mixed in on the smoldering finish. Another compelling Nizza Barbera from Bersano at an incredible price point!” — Josh Hull\, PLCB Chairman’s Selection Buyer \n  \nCode #79289 ~ Cordero di Montezemolo Barolo Monfalletto 2016 \n$37.99 \nChairman’s Selection®\, Originally Quoted at $60.00 \n“This is one of a fabulous set of new releases\, starting with this classic Barolo that is linear\, direct and beautifully focused. The fruit is soft\, elegant and open-knit in nature\, with berry nuances\, oak spice and crushed limestone. I also notice a specifically minty note that I recall from previous vintages\, only it appears with more brilliant clarity in this beautiful 2016.” — 95 Points Wine Advocate\, Jul 2020 \n“The 2016 Barolo Monfalletto is a gorgeous wine that shows just how fabulous the year is. Bright\, floral and light on its feet\, the 2016 is all class. The elegance and refinement of La Morra come through loud and clear in a mid-weight\, aromatically expressive Barolo that hits all the right notes. Best of all\, the 2016 will drink well right out of the gate. This is such a gorgeous and classy wine. Wow.” — 95 Points Vinous Media\, Feb 2020 \n  \nZOOM CONNECT INFO\nYou are invited to the following scheduled Pennsylvania Wine Society event via Zoom:\n“Red Wines of Piemonte” (a presentation about red wines from the Piedmont Region of Northwestern Italy) \nTo join this event\, click on the following link: \nhttps://zoom.us/j/96430594996?pwd=RmJsaWtFNjhHVWFpRzZ5alhwYzJiUT09 \nMeeting ID: 964 3059 4996\nPasscode: 355224 \nOne tap mobile\n+16465588656\,\,96430594996#\,\,\,\,*355224# US (New York)\n+13017158592\,\,96430594996#\,\,\,\,*355224# US (Washington D.C) \nDial by your location\n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington D.C)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n+1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston) \nMeeting ID: 964 3059 4996\nPasscode: 355224\nFind your local number: https://zoom.us/u/acIDdA9gXw

DESCRIPTION:It is that time of year when the bounty of the harvest has been realized\, the hard work of processing that harvest is largely behind us\, and it is now a time to celebrate and give thanks! The celebration traditionally begins on the third Thursday of November\, when Beaujolais Nouveau is released for consumption worldwide on what has become known as “Beaujolais Nouveau Day”! \nBeaujolais Nouveau is the first wine of the new harvest. It is a young\, fresh\, and fruity\, almost “gulpable” wine that provides a delightful spark to the post-harvest celebration! During our Virtual Wine Tasting event\, we will discuss the history of Beaujolais Nouveau\, and the vinification process behind it\, as we taste three of these first wines of the new harvest with you! We will also discuss other suggested wine pairings to compliment your Thanksgiving table\, from hors d’oeuvres to dessert! So\, please join co-hosts Marty Cook and Joe Via for this exciting event! \nYou will have to be quick to select the following wines for this event\, as they will not be released to the public for purchase until the morning of Thursday\, November 19th. You will have a little over three days to secure these wines from 9:00 a.m. on Thursday\, November 19th through shortly before our Virtual Wine Tasting on Sunday\, November 22nd; so\, mark your calendars! \nPurchase one\, two\, or all three of the following wines in advance of this tasting\, and serve slightly chilled\, i.e. just under room temperature between\, say\, 55 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit: \nPLCB Code #83336 ~ \nPierre-Marie Chermette Beaujolais Nouveau Primeur Griottes 2020 \n$14.99 + sales tax \nPLCB Code #83325 ~ \nMommessin Beaujolais Nouveau 2020 \n$14.99 + sales tax \nPLCB Code #5877 ~ \nGeorges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2020 \n$12.99 + sales tax \nPLEASE NOTE: PLCB Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores offer “Curbside Pickup”.
