SUMMARY:Pennsylvania Wine Excellence Tasting and Awards Ceremony XIX
DESCRIPTION:20 years ago\, Frank Fritsch told me he thought we should be doing something to recognize the Pennsylvania wineries. He especially felt we should encourage them to make the kind of wines we like to drink. I had learned a lot about judging wines from attending American Wine Society conferences and a few other wine events that involved a jury\, so that we made a good pair. We put together the first judging which was a great success and then presented the top scoring wines at a tasting. We’ve had the judging and a tasting event every year since until Covid came along. \nThis year we will have our presentation of the top ten wines along with our ceremony where we announce the top scorer and the runner up. We will also hear from the winery representatives who will tell us about conditions in the vineyard\, as well as decisions made in the winery that led to their outstanding wine.  Attendees will taste the top 10\, and at the end of the afternoon we will announce the winners. The top scorer gets our beautiful decorative plaque to hang on the wall at the winery; the runner up is awarded a framed plaque.  Come and enjoy the tasting\, be pleased by what Pennsylvania has to offer\, and cheer the winners! \nThe top 10 wines in alphabetical order: \nArmstrong Valley Cabernet Franc \nArmstrong Valley Chambourcin \nBella Terra Estate Briar Valley Lemberger \nPresque Isle Lake Erie Teroldego \nSouth Shore Sparkling Riesling \nSouth Shore Chardonnay \nSouth Shore Pet Nat Rosé \nWaltz Cabernet Franc \nWaltz Chardonnay \nWaltz Cherry Tree Merlot \nJoin us at the Hilton Harrisburg on Sunday\, May 1st at 2:00 p.m. to recognize and celebrate the fine efforts of our Pennsylvania wineries. \n100% COVID 19 vaccination proof with follow-up 14-day waiting period completion is required to confirm event reservations.   All Center for Disease Control and Pennsylvania Department of Health distancing and safety precautions as well as the Hilton Harrisburg’s practices and policies will be followed as we are their guests.
